I am a diehard Republican, but there's a lot I like about Virginia Senator Jim Webb (D). Several years ago, before his run for the Senate, I emailed him and said that I wish he would run for president. At the time, he said he was exploring his options. Later, I was happy to see him run for the Senate, and win! Now, I'm very happy to see him being considered for Obama's VP.
In just his short time in the Senate, Webb has already been successful in getting a new GI Bill to the president's desk, a bill that would restore GI educational benefits similar to those offered to soldiers after World War 2.
In my view, Webb is a Renaissance Man, one who has led a well-rounded life of honorable endeavors. A Naval Academy graduate, Webb served valiantly in Vietnam, earning the Navy Cross, Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. He served as Reagan's Secretary of the Navy. And he's a well-repected author, among many other things. In some ways, Webb reminds me of Teddy Roosevelt.
